* Gene connected strongly with this story not only for the
fact of his own extensive family tree & history collection, but
for the belief of the importance of heritage, & his lifelong
study into our First Nations people & lands, specifically the
‘Gulidjan’ & ‘Wadawurrung’ Nations in Western, Victoria,
Australia.
“BLACKHAWK”, initially inspired by acclaimed Artistic
Director of the Australian Shakespeare Company Glenn
Elston, together with ‘Balang’ also known as Tom E. Lewis,
community Leader of the Murrungun, Arnhem land people.
Tom E. Lewis internationally celebrated actor of stage &
screen, renowned for compelling performances in numerous
films including , ‘Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith’ & ’The
Proposition’.
Tom and Glenn, co-presented ‘Walking with Spirits’, a
celebration of the ancient Aboriginal tradition of Corroboree
at Malkgulumbu (Beswick Falls) on Jawoyn land.
The tale is a tribute to the Soul flight of Tribal elder
“BLACKHAWK” who was farewelled in a traditional ceremony
during, ‘Walking with Spirits’.
Grateful thanks to hit Australian songwriter ‘Paul Norton’,
who wove his magic over the story to create “BLACKHAWK”.
