Phill JD - Shaking Breaking Legs

From DJing for his grandfather’s fishing trips and singing in church choirs, to writing poetry in high school and getting international airplay, Phill Doring has music and lyrics in his blood. The aspiring artist said he was born loving country music and was always the student up the back of the classroom who would be humming songs and studying the lyrics on CD covers.

Phill is foremost a country music fan, he lives and breathes it and holds strong ties to country and connections with the Gamilaraay nation. After competing in talent quests in the late 1990s, he took up guitar lessons in 2005 and, through chance meetings at songwriter workshops, he began performing up the East Coast of Australia at outback functions, pubs, clubs, showcases and within country music clubs. He has had success internationally with his poetry and in 2011, he self-published his first book, Love, Laughs and Landscapes.

Life and growing a family took over his priorities and he returned to performing three years ago and Phill’s musical achievements continue to grow, recording for the first time in 2020. Phill names his influences as Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Garth Brooks, John Williamson, Slim Dusty and Adam Harvey, resulting in a traditional feel to his music.

Audiences encouraged the Port Stephens country music singer-songwriter to record his songs, as they wanted to take his music home with them from gigs and he released his debut single in October 2020. Praying For Rain spent 34 weeks on the Airplay Express International Country Chart Top 40 and reached No. 1 for a week, as well as No. 1 on the Country Thunder Fan Voted charts and the single received international airplay on terrestrial and online radio stations.

Phill has played the Bluewater Country Music Festival and also gained a finalist placing in the Tamworth Songwriters Association Awards in 2021 and was a grand finalist in fRETfEST at the 2020 Tamworth Country Music Festival. The family man plans to continue building his fan base and aspires to travel around Australia with his wife and children, playing for audiences across the nation.
