Caroline started singing when she was a child. She was influenced by the country and folk music played by her uncles and teachers and spent many hours pouring through and listening closely to song lyrics. She was part of School Choirs and Kiwanis festivals as a student and then took a different path moving into business in the ’80s and starting her own company in the early ’90s.
After a lengthy absence, Caroline began singing again a few years ago with the School of Rock, a local music studio and joined the adult band program where she met Guitar Virtuoso David Barrett who was mentoring her Adult Band. She sang and performed with that group for a year or so. Caroline aspired to write music and felt that she had a lot to say. Recognizing the need to create melodies in the songwriting process, she decided to study guitar with David as her teacher in 2017. Once she developed a basic understanding of chord structure and progressions, she began to write. Caroline also continues to sing locally with one of her original School of Rock bands – The Tuesday Night Music Club and performs with them a few times a year.
Caroline began recording her original songs in 2018 and plans to continue to work through and record her compositions. Many of her songs have been arranged by David Barrett who plays all of the instruments on some of her recordings excluding drums which are played by Mark Kelso, one of Canada’s pre-eminent drummers.
In the fall of 2018 Caroline crossed paths with Dan Washburn, formerly of South Mountain. She began to co-write with Dan and went to Nashville in February, 2019 for the first time to record two of their original co-written songs, Memories of You and This World of Mine. In March they recorded You Love Me at Northumberland Studios in Brighton. Caroline continues to write and co write. She plans to continue recording her music and is grateful to be able to express her musings about life and love through song.
