Karena, born Amanda Karena Bacchus, in Toronto Ontario on April 18th 1991, is a Canadian female rapper/singer/songwriter who’s main genres are hip hop/rap/pop/r&b. Karena fell in love with music since she was in her mom’s tummy. Her mother would put the headphones of her portable cassette player on her tummy during pregnancy and Karena would kick like crazy. She sang before she could speak at the age of 1 and she danced before she could walk. The versatile female songstress also wrote songs from the age of 6. She has been surrounded by music/musicians since birth- her dad Terry Bacchus, known as ‘Terry B’ and for his album (These Moments Last Forever) being the main one. Karena grew up on various genres of music from the 50s to present. Growing up, on weekends, Karena and her parents would pick a genre of music and play vinyl in the basement of their home, where her parents would teach her all the dances from their era. It is her favourite childhood memory and it nurtured her love for music and it’s history.

All the music from different times, genres, artists, and through watching and learning from her dad, as well as her personal life experiences, have all influenced Karena into the artist she is today. Her love for music was always expressed. In elementary school, music was her favourite class. She would enjoy singing in school musicals which led to her teachers to tell her not to forget them when she made it. In highschool, she was a soprano in music class and enjoyed singing at school events and choir. At 16, she wrote/recorded her first single "I'll Come Softly" (which is the answer back to "Come To Me Softly", made famous by Jimmy James. Dale Russell, former member of "The Guess Who", played on the song). At 17, she wrote/recorded “The Way You Make Me Feel”. At 20, she wrote/recorded a dance single “1 Of A Kind” expressing her confidence and empowering other women in the process. After a traumatizing and life changing decade due to a catastrophic accident involving a 53’ tractor trailer freight truck, which resulted in her being in a wheelchair for many years, Karena is back up on her feet again and sharing her music with the world.

From her personal experience, she is also an advocate for love, kindness, mental health and persons with disabilities. In 2023 she announced her comeback by performing her popular single “Murder I Wrote”(released 2023), which is a female pov on dating in today’s generation, at Nathan Philip Square downtown Toronto Ontario. The catchy song has been earning her local respect for her voice, lyrics, and flow. The female songstress has 10 songs released to date. Her songs showcase her talent, versatility, and vulnerability, which makes her very relatable. Some popular singles to note are “Murder I Wrote” (March 2023), “No Love” (October 2023), and “I’m The Best” (August 2024). Karena says “music has always been a huge part of me and my life.

I’m a natural good vibe and my life experiences make me very relatable, so I channel that into my music. My lyrics never miss. All I want to do is create and use my music to connect with people all over the world and help them feel good in some way”. Her discography is as follows: Murder I Wrote (March 20th 2023, re-released March 21st 2024), Come Through (July 10th 2023), Do It (July 17th 2023), Bars (October 6th 2023), No Love (October 26th 2023), Natural (November 4th 2023), Dance With Me Baby (February 14th 2024), Gimme Ah Taste (July 18th 2024), I’m The Best (August 21st 2024), Heartbreaker (October 11th 2024).
